Who we are
Silbame is run by Ivan Solskiy, NIF Z1284658K, C. Imeldo Serís, 108, 3D, 38003 Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a self-employed person in Spain, who decides how your data is used (the controller). Contact for anything in this policy: [email protected].
What we collect
What the apps send, and when:
| Data | When | What for |
|---|---|---|
| Account: your name, and the phone number, email, Apple ID or Google account you sign in with | When you create the account or add a sign-in method | To sign you in and show your name to the people you share with |
| Location: position, time, accuracy, speed and direction, from the phone's GPS or the phone's own network location | While the Share My Location switch is on; about every 5 seconds while someone watches you Live | To show your position to the people you chose |
| Phone status: battery level and charging, Low Power Mode, network type, temperature state, free memory and storage, time since the phone started, time zone, permission states, Bluetooth on or off; on Android also screen on or off and a guess of activity (walking, in a vehicle) | With location reports, and at least every 10 minutes when there is no new position | So the people you share with can see why your position is old (for example a flat battery), and to find faults |
| Motion: steps, floors, air pressure, a guess of activity (walking, in a vehicle) and motion summaries, if you allow Motion & Fitness | With location reports, and in more detail during a Sport or Drive session you start | To notice when you start moving and send your position from the first steps; to draw a session |
| Phone details: maker and model, system version, app version, an identifier made by the app for this install, the notification token; mobile carrier fields where the system still gives them | When the phone registers and with reports | To deliver notifications and Live requests to the right phone, and to find faults |
| Names you give: the names of people and phones you add | When you add or rename them | To show them to you and to the people you share them with |
| How you will use Silbame: the answers you pick, and a work email if you give one | When you answer the question, or change it in Me | To choose what the app shows first, and to count interest in planned features |
| Contacts: codes made from the phone numbers in your address book | Only if you tap Show my contacts | To find which contacts already use Silbame. The codes are not stored; we keep a count per day. Names never leave the phone |
| The phone number or email of a person you share with | When you share with them | To deliver the share to them when they sign in |
| GPS tracker you add: its position, the Wi-Fi networks and mobile cells it sees, battery | While the tracker is on your account | To show the tracker's position |
What we do not collect
No advertising or analytics tools and no crash reporting service in the apps. No Wi-Fi scans from phones. No address book is stored. We do not sell or rent your data, and we show no ads. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Why we may use it (legal basis)
To show your location to the people you chose, for as long as you chose: this is the service you asked for (GDPR article 6(1)(b)).
To keep the service working and secure, for example to find faults and stop abuse (article 6(1)(f), our legitimate interest).
Contact lookup and Motion & Fitness only with your consent (article 6(1)(a)). You give it in the app and can withdraw it in the phone's settings for Silbame.
Who can see your location
People you share with. In the apps and the web dashboard they see your last position and its age, Live while they have your card open, and your Trail (the path) from the moment you started sharing with them, never from before. If you stop sharing and share again, that moment starts again.
If someone set up your phone for you from their account as a managed phone (for example a parent for a child's phone), the people that account shares with see it the same way, and sharing cannot be paused on that phone.
Service providers
These companies run parts of Silbame for us, under a data processing agreement, and only for this purpose:
| Provider | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| DigitalOcean | Servers and database | Frankfurt, Germany |
| Cloudflare | Network in front of our servers and this website; email to [email protected] | Worldwide network, company in the US |
| Sign in with Google (if you use it); Firebase Cloud Messaging for notifications on Android and iPhone; locating GPS trackers from the Wi-Fi networks and cells they see | US | |
| Twilio | Text messages with sign-in codes | US |
| Mapbox | Maps and place names in the Android app and the web dashboard. To show a place name, a position is sent to Mapbox (in the web dashboard rounded to about 100 m). To draw a walked route in the web dashboard, its positions are sent to Mapbox | US |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple (if you use it); notifications on iPhone; maps and place names in the iPhone app. To show a place name, a position is sent to Apple | US |
| Our notification relay | Passes notifications from our servers to Firebase. Runs on Google Cloud | Madrid, Spain |
Transfers outside the EU
Some providers above are US companies. Transfers to them rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the company is certified, and on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses otherwise. You can check a company's certification at dataprivacyframework.gov.
How long we keep it
Silbame is in testing, so retention today is not yet what it will be at launch:
| Data | Today (testing) | Planned for launch |
|---|---|---|
| Location history | Kept with no automatic deletion. The 30-day setting is in the web dashboard, but the job that deletes old positions is not switched on yet | A setting in each app, on by default: positions are kept 30 days, then deleted. Turn it off and Silbame keeps only your last position |
| Account | Until you delete it. After a deletion request you are signed out at once, and the account and its location history are erased by hand within 30 days | The same 30 days, done by an automatic job |
| Backups of the database | Daily, deleted after 14 days; some backups made by hand before changes have no end date | No backup older than 30 days |
| Contact codes | Not stored; a count per day | The same |
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, take it to another service, limit how we use it, or object to a use. Write to [email protected] from the email or phone number on your account. We answer within one month.
Delete your account in the app: on Android Me, Account, Delete account; on iPhone Me, Delete Account.
You can complain to the Spanish data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es).
Children
In Spain, a child under 14 needs a parent or guardian to agree before using Silbame (LOPDGDD article 7). Today the apps do not ask for age and do not record a parent's agreement. A parent can set up a child's phone with the parent's own account. Recording a parent's agreement is planned before launch.
Location at work
If your employer asks you to share, they must tell you before, in clear words, what they use it for (LOPDGDD article 90). In the app you always see who can see your location, and you can stop sharing, unless the phone is managed (set up for you by someone else).
This website
silbame.app sets no cookies and has no analytics, ads or third-party scripts; fonts are served from this site. Your light or dark choice is kept in your browser's local storage and not sent to us. Cloudflare, which delivers the site, processes your IP address to deliver pages and stop attacks.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes. Important changes are shown in the app before they apply.
