Getting started

Which phones does Silbame work on?

iPhone with iOS 26 or later, and Android 8.0 or later. Silbame is in testing: testers get it through TestFlight on iPhone and a test link on Android. It is not in the App Store or Google Play yet.

How do I sign in?

With your phone number (we text you a code), with Apple, with Google, or with an email and a password. The same code creates your account if you are new. You can add another sign-in method later in Me, Sign-in Methods.

Which permissions does Silbame ask for, and why?

Location, then "Always": so the people you share with see where you are while Silbame is closed. Without "Always", Silbame shares only while it is open. Motion & Fitness: so Silbame notices when you start moving and shares a walk from its first steps, and reports less while you are still. Notifications: so a request for Live reaches your phone at once. Contacts: only if you tap Show my contacts.

Is there a web version?

Yes, my.silbame.app shows the same people on a map in the browser.

Sharing your location

How long does sharing last?

You pick when you share: One Hour, Until End of Day (23:59 on your phone, that same day) or Indefinitely, which lasts until you stop it.

How do I stop sharing with one person?

Open their card and tap Stop Sharing My Location, then confirm. Or open the Me tab and tap Stop next to their name under "You share with".

Can I pause for everyone at once?

Yes. Turn off the Share My Location switch in the Me tab. Your phone then sends nothing, and the people who see you get "Location paused". Your shares stay, and continue when you turn the switch back on.

How do I know who can see me?

The Me tab lists everyone under "You share with", each with the end time, and under "Waiting" the people who have not installed Silbame or signed in yet.

What happens when sharing ends?

Your phone stops sending to that person. On Android, the person who saw you gets a notification that you stopped sharing. You do not get a message yourself.

What is a managed phone?

A phone you give to a family member, for example a child's phone, that shares with you all the time. On iPhone, sign in on it with your own account and choose "A child's phone"; on Android, mark it in the Devices tab. The app shows it as Managed: Stop and Pause are hidden on it, and the phone itself says that it shares its location with you.

Live, Trail and the map

What is Live?

While someone has your card open, your phone sends a position about every 5 seconds. Live runs up to 30 minutes at a time (they tap for Live to go on), stops at most a minute and a half after the card is closed, and pauses while your battery is low and not charging.

What do "Now" and "4 min ago" mean?

The age of the last position. "Now" is under a minute old. A position that is hours old usually means the phone is off, has no signal, or is paused.

Can I see where someone was earlier?

Yes: open their card and turn on Trail for the last 30 minutes or today. You see only the time since they started sharing with you.

Does Silbame use a lot of battery?

Most of the time Silbame reports every few minutes, and less while the phone is still. Live uses more, so it runs only while someone has your card open, up to 30 minutes at a time, and pauses while your battery is low.

Contacts

Does Silbame upload my address book?

No. If you tap Show my contacts, your phone turns each number into a code and sends only the codes, to find which contacts already use Silbame. The server does not store the codes; it keeps a count per day. A code made from a phone number can be matched by someone who tries every number, so treat it as a lookup, not as a secret.

Can people look me up by my number?

Yes, if your account has a phone number and "Discoverable by phone number" is on. It is on by default. You can turn it off in the Me tab.

Your account

How do I delete my account?

On Android: Me, Account, Delete account. On iPhone: Me, Delete Account. You are signed out at once, and your account and location history are erased within 30 days. Today this erasure is done by hand from the requests; an automatic job is planned. The web dashboard has no delete button: write to [email protected].

Can I get a copy of my data?

Yes. Write to [email protected] from the email or phone number on your account.

How much does it cost?

Nothing today. Prices are not set yet; they will be on this site before anything is sold.
